The sound creeps like Devil’s Ivy across many styles. This complete genre-anarchy is largely due to the composer’s disability, DID. Varying identities, tastes in music, vocabularies, knowledge, and experiences within the system create a versatile project. Listeners will notice hints of progressive metal, folk, alt-rock, neo soul, lofi, and spaghetti western.

Apart from all of the Cacti System members, a sound of six layers flaunts Cacti’s wicked and enigmatic vocals, woodwind/BV by The Emerald Ruby, Kyle Burgess on guitar, La’ree Rose on bass, keys/BV by Kira Ann Phoenix, and percussion by Damon Jones.

Their debut single, “Snake In Your Heart”, was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kyle Burgess in a flat a mere thirty meters away from a busy train track. “I would always start my vocal takes as soon as the last coal train disappeared”, said Cacti. The song was written to empower victims of domestic violence, a familiar debacle for the artist. A music video was filmed involving their late Pop’s WWI Matilda tank. (Viewer’s discretion is advised. Trigger warning: domestic violence.)

After a seachange to Newcastle NSW, a producer from Tommirock Studios, Mitta Norath, warmly welcomed Cacti under his wing and spawned nine songs. There, a small but thriving music scene provides the perfect soil for this sonic succulent to sprout.

A strange ensemble possesses their mind. First conjured by transformative experiences, their songs are the pieces of a cryptic jigsaw puzzle for you to put back together. Their sound is intricate and alluring. While there are fascinating stories beneath the surface, they are guarded to protect the faint of heart. Don’t get too close if you can’t handle the sting.

Their roots remain in the dry, desert land of NSW Australia. Cacti was subject to a testing upbringing which resulted in the artist developing Dissociative Identity Disorder. While challenges come with this, it also means that Cacti Moon is a vessel of several musicians working both solo and collaboratively to release their repertoire. The trauma transformed into treasure, serenading with a residual sting. After all, a cactus will flourish in the harshest of conditions.

Their advocacy doesn’t end with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Cacti Moon is a registered volunteer and treasurer of Newcastle & Hunter Valley Bird Rescue. From mothering several parrots and participating in some NHVBR events, Cacti was formally invited to join the rescue. Permanently mothering two Eclectus parrots named Opus and Honk, a Red Tailed-Black Cockatoo named Rhapsody, and a Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo named Ciggy, Cacti decided to help care for and rehome captive birds. More often than not, a parrot is in the care of the artist, waiting to be rehomed to a suitable applicant.
